If your ridgeline goes slack when you get in the hammock, that means it's probably too long and it's pretty much just decorative. A non-functional ridgeline means your "lay" is completely at the mercy of your hang and the various stretchy bit in your rig. Shorten that sucker up and get more diagonal. It's psychologically weird at first because it feels like you're about to wiggle your head right out the side of the hammock but it physically will get you a lot closer to flat.

If you're buying new tree huggers, beware. They're very expensive in some places. Strapworks rocks.

Thanks for the shopping advice - that'll come in handy. As to the lay, I'm getting pretty diagonal in it - about 45* off the center line, give or take. Fighting the stretchy material and a pair of trees that are just too close to each other is giving me more sag than I think I ought to have. Eyeballing the suspension and I think my stuff is lots more than 30* - guessing about 45* or so for that as well.

Ah - it'll come together sooner or later.
