    Sons ring buckle HH

Thanks to Just Jeff, Knotty, and many others who post and contribute to this site (the best on the internet), I converted my sons HH expedition to ring buckle today. what is the best knot for securing after everything is adjusted? It slipped without securing.

Cool. Will be doing something similar on Monday. Putting a Warbonnet cinch/webbing suspension on one of Hennessy Expedition for my wife in preparation for the MAHHA group hang.

But how did you get the rings through the eye splice at the hammock end?

Hi Knotty, I didnt have the rings on when I spliced. I put them on afterwards, by slipping the loop through the rings then widening the loop bringing up and backwards then down over the rings. I hope I didnt do anything wrong, did I?

I assume you mean to keep the hugger from slipping back through the rings? This is how I described my method to someone back in Feb.

    1. Pull the loose end through the rings and back towards the tree.
    2. Go around the webbing (I go away from myself) and bring it back under to form a loop.
    3. Reach through the loop taking hold of the loose end (but not the very end) and draw it through the loop.
    4. Tighten the knot leaving the loose end dangling.

If done properly the knot should be snugged up against the rings and the loose end will be free. When you're ready to take the hammock down you just pull the loose end and the knot is released.

This page shows some photos using a slippery half hitch.

No, not at all. I'm asking for my own understanding.

From the pics I see a section line with the rings attached to the eye at one end with a larks head. Simple enough since you can feed the free end though the eye to form it.

Now you have a line with rings at one end and an eye at the other. You feed the eye into the first HH hole, wrap a couple times, thru the second hole and back out the first hole. I just can't figure out how you passed the rings and line through that eye to finish things off.

Knotty, I'm not familiar with the HH rigging, but looking at the photos (5 & 6) it looks as though he ran everything through as you said. Then at the end he pulled enough slack through to allow room to slip the other end with the rings through the fixed eye. After that, tighten everything up pulling the fixed eye back through the first hole (photo 6) then zip tied.

Again, not familiar with the HH rigging, just trying to help out and hope I haven't misunderstood what I'm seeing.

That's exactly how I did it on mine. Fed the continuous loop through the HH holes then after everything was tightened up, larks headed to the rings.

I took off the rings attached it to the hammock then put back on the rings. The rings can come on and off. You don't need a free end.
