    G'day from Wollongong, Australia

G'day hangers, my name's Phil and I have a hammock strung on the deck in my backyard, but have recently discovered the hammock camping movement on youtube and found my way here.

I used to go camping with Scouts, but haven't been camping in 15 years, so I'm starting from scratch with the hammock camping stuff though, so I need to do my research into hammocks, sleeping bags and pads (or quilts).

I am rather hesitant ordering from Australia without having a chance to test things out, so looking for quality recommendations - you guys are quality, right? Being tall (187cm, 6'2") I am particularly interested in your thoughts and suggestions on hammock length.

Also regarding locations, There are some rather lovely National Parks around my area, which I understand I can camp in so long as I keep 1km off the tracks, but I'm not 100% sure how this works so any locals have suggestions?

Thanks for reading, I hope to be a hanger soon too.

G'day and welcome from Canada! Hopefully some of the Aussie hangers will chime in-I'm looking at you Bruciehi5!
An 11 foot hammock would be more comfortable for you and would eliminate the calf ridge pressure many experience in 10 foot gathered end hammocks.

All the vendors here offer quality gear. I can personally recommend Warbonnet outdoors and Underground quilts. I also have hammocks from Tree to Trail Gear, Northwoods Hammock co and BIAS and they are also well made. For hammock related gear check out Dutchware and AHE.

Contact the vendors about shipping options not on their sites. They may be able to offer less expensive options.

Thanks luckyavmc, 1 hour unpaid lunch break just makes the work day longer than it needs to be.

    Welcome Phil,

Late last year I took the gamble and bought my hammock gear from the US and went for the more well known manufacturers as I thought I could always sell it second hand easily if it wasn't my thing.

Luckily I love the gear I bought, I am 181cm, 80kg and find the WBBB 1.1 double just fine although I have not used a 11 foot hammock(not yet...)

Good luck with your search and don't be afraid to ask any questions on this site, people are really helpful.

    Thanks HammockDreamer,
I have been looking into the WBBB (and many others). The Warbonnet site says it's comfortable up to 6'8" (2m), though I've seen reviews from people shorter than I saying it wasn't big enough.
