    Prince William Forest Park

I've been doing some trip planning for a group of us to camp out there, and I have been unable to find any information regarding whether hammocks are allowed in this park.

This park is part of the national park systems, if I remember correctly. If anyone has any information on whether I can use my hammock, either in the back country campgrounds or the normal campgrounds, we're not picky; it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any information

703-221-4706 This is the parks phone # just in case you want to call and explain that you would be using tree straps to protect the trees. Have fun wherever you end up going

Oh no! Well looks like I'll be going somewhere else. I am not sleeping on the dirty, cold ground unless I have to.

They do allow hammocks in the Chopawamsic (The backcountry area) now. Here's the related post:

I'm going to wander through the woods there a bit this weekend. I'll stop at the Visitor's Center and pose the question again for safety's sake.

    Its very weird....

I worked for PWFP this passed summer as part of the biology team located at TREC. I aksed the lead biologist who then asked management if hammocks were allowed in the park and he told me yes.

But then someone on here said that it was listed they were not allowed...which I have not seen personally.

I did in fact hang my hammock and there were no problems. Perhaps it was just because I was an employee?

Definitely check out Chopawamsic. It is literally across the street and much more secluded that Prince william

It is definitely a top my list of local trips in NoVA, just waiting for the green light on hammocks. I don't want to get there and get denied. I just wish everyone was on the same page.

You can find the "hammocks not allowed verbiage here, under rules and regulations: http://www.nps.gov/prwi/planyourvisi...trycamping.htm

I did a trial run there last fall when buying my first hammock. I stayed in the park and was allowed to hang when using tree huggers 1" or better. It is just down the road from my house and I now use it as a quick trip for a night out of the house or a easy trip for my step daughter.
