Dry bags are great. I keep my clothes, bedding and things I want dry in them. Important things get double bagged. I still get things wet. Sometimes I'm a klutz. When I was in Alabama my fishing partner started calling me splash.

Yes, event is awesome! I trust it to protect my Western Mountaineering bag in my kayak. My bag is always bone dry, even if my hatches aren't. Does anybody know of a vendor that sells event and/or the roll over seal tops? Making some stuff sacs sounds like a good project for a beginner.

Doesn't Sea To Summit make the roll over seal dry bags?

I was wanting to buy the materials to make the bags myself. Here's the ones I use they are a little lighter weight than the sea to summit.

Are those truly "dry bags" or just compression bags?

Sorry, haven't gotten into DIY enough yet to have a resource for ya.

Unfortunately, getting quilts that pack down small means getting down. I don't know of another insulation on the market that even comes close to down in terms of compressibility. Some of the high-end synthetics come close in weight, especially for warmer temperature ratings when the shell of the quilt is such an high percentage of the quilts' total weight, but they don't compress nearly as well as down.

That being said, if bulk is your issue, double bag your down and hope for the best. Otherwise, take a look at the rest of your gear and try to bring the most compact items that you can for each's job.

    Sorry this isn't more helpful.

I used to be a ocean kayak guide in maine...we did overnight trips all summer and used synthetic filled sleeping bags because even with the dry bags, the barnicles would have their way on occasion and things did get wet. Soggy sleeping for the clients makes for lousy tips for the guides!!

Well there you go words of experience from a pro! I guess sooner or later I'm bound to end up with a wet bag(uhhh huh huh). That could tend to make one miserable after a long day of paddling.

I think ill try making one using primaloft or insultex. I received the shell material yesterday.
I like down, but most of my paddling is solo, and when the fit hits the shan = I screw up. I want things to dry fast and keep me from shivering even when wet.
My bags are mostly outdoor research. I have a couple of sea to summit, which I like .
