    Overnight Backpack trip advice

The expected lows are mid 40's. I have an UQ that I have used as low as 17F, but I'm trying to conserve space in my pack and it's taking up a lot of room & weight. My Marmot sleeping bag that I use as a TQ is rated for around the 30's but again it's what I use when I camped in the teens.

    My gear I have available:

    Yoga mat
    Emergency reflective bivy
    Grizzly bag liner
    Above mentioned UQ.

I've thought about going and buying some 25' x 25" reflectix to replace the yoga mat, but I'm open to suggestions of combinations or alternatives that I haven't thought of yet. Anything I do purchase needs to remain under $30

As long as your Marmot sleeping bag still works well, I would just go with that.

I'd just go to Walmart and pick-up one of their rolls of blue ccf for less than $10.
It will be a fraction of the weight of the yoga mat and will keep you plenty warm at 40°.

But, none of the options you listed will take less space than your UQ and be effective as bottom insulation. Have you tried leaving your bag and UQ loose in the pack? It is amazing how much space a balled-up piece of anything takes up, compared to leaving it loose and letting it fill in the gaps between gear.
    Trust nobody!

I've never tried leaving the bag or UQ loose in the pack. I may experiment with that in the future. I've got another thread going where I'm evaluating my items and weight and may be changing a lot of my setup here soon, including the possibility of a CCF instead of the yoga mat.

Lose the bag, take the UQ and the bivy.

I tried the blue Mat from WalMart. Unless I have a different version it isn't all the easy pack. Plus I had a hard time keeping it where I wanted it. I switched to reflectix and have had better luck with both weight and keeping it where I put it. I have yet to acquire an under quilt so I can't comment on that. But I don't mind the reflectix.

I just strap it to the outside of my pack using the sleeping pad straps, and I've never had a problem. If you have a bag with those you should be good to go, just roll it tight.

You didn't mention your pack size or other gear. I just returned from 4 night trip on AT in Georgia. Forecast was for H 70s L 50s. Ended up being cold, windy rainy. (H 50s with blowing rain and down to low 40s at night. I was glad I had my UQ. You may want to review the rest of your gear. When I put my gear list together for a trip I start with my UQ and TQ and plan my clothing around them.

I used it at the MAHHA two weeks ago. I think I heard it went down to 34. Worked well for me.
