Re: Kammok - Where is the love?

Fair bit of snobbery on show here? What's with the noob jibes. Its only camping.

Check out my gnats hair suspension system with unobtanium buckle and SDRGVX ridgeline system. Trained spiders create my tarp for me when I get to camp.

Do what works for you. Ignore gear whores.

Well, if you go on a tent forum and say, "I love my Coleman tent!" you are likely to get a similar reaction. There are better tents to be had. Coleman builds for the masses. The equivalent of Coleman in the hammock world is ENO, and Kammok is trying to muscle in on their territory.

As for gear whores, OP asked for opinions about a piece of gear and he got them. There's a wide array of hammockers on this forum, from people who car-camp and sleep in $12 tablecloth hammocks with Wally World blue tarps, to people who use cutting-edge UL products.

I didn't see a fair amount of snobbery, I saw a fair amount of knowledge shared.

Handbags away fella. Coleman make some very good family tents. Saying someone has a noob setup implies there is a skill to hammocking.

    There isn't.

    Get over it.

I've never layed in a Kammock, nor have I seen one in person.
If you like it, then there is nothing wrong with that.

    Dutch,
Just don't try to get ahold of that unobtainium.

    mountainm,
Saying someone has a noob setup implies there is a skill to hammocking.
I disagree, on two counts. Here's one of them: saying someone has a noob setup does not imply that they lack skill.

Stick around, and keep your ears open.

I've had my ears open for ages (see my join date) thought it was time I opened my mouth.

The phrase "noob setup" is never positive. One person is making a snap judgement on another. They are saying someone clearly hasn't had the knowledge and experience required to further oneself in the hammocking arena - as that can be the only explanation for why they would choose to use such gear. But here's the secret. Some people don't give a crap about weight, high tech fabrics, shelves, footboxes, the latest knots and tarp configurations. Some people just want to go hang in a wood and have fun. Here's to those people.

Noob setup. Its condescending , snobbish and just plain wrong and if you're defending the phrase you've already been sucked in.
