Idea to prevent Amsteel Blue from unraveling

Last night as an experiment, I used some 1/4" white "write on" heat shrink tubing to "whip" the ends of some 1/8th Amsteel Blue. It seems to hold better than tape, can be done with nothing more than a match and scissors/knife and does not appear to affect the cord - not that it would matter. It's at a non-load bearing point.
The reason I used the white "write on" is because that's what Home Depot had at the time (in a small amount). The end result looks and feels like the end of a shoe lace.

Anyhow, just tossing that out there. Thoughts? Comments?

Can you write on that white? You could label your head and foot ends. Or use different color shrink tubing on each end to depict which end is which.

It's not a bad idea. I generally just splice it back into itself.

Was going to ask the same question? Since amsteel is a little difficult when holding notes I tend to splice back into themselves.

Backsplice. It's the spice of life.

Baja, I actually use different color whoopies for head/foot.

I've used black 1/8" shrink wrap tubing on 7/64" amsteel for ends too short to splice.

I agree that Amsteel is difficult to keep in tune.

    I also agree...why not back-splice?

CA glue (super glue) bonds to amsteel.

Since you are using a match anyway, Amsteel fuses nicely.

I guess I'm either A) lazy, or B) lacking in the confidence to try splicing. After looking at numerous videos and the step-by-step photo instructions located on this forum it just looks like something more complicated than I feel comfortable attempting.
The very first thing I tried was melting the ends and wasn't satisfied with the result. That's what inspired the idea to use heat shrink tubing. The whole process takes about 2 minutes and requires little "thinking" or tools more specialized than some scissors and a lighter... Must be "A".
