I could have gone the amazon route (they're simply hennessey #4 snakeskins), but picked them up from Jacks R Better along with some other gear.

Roughly $40 for everything, shipping was another $9.

O.k. thanks. That's not bad. Have you had the chance to compare your mod to any of the pole mods underneath the tarp? Do you see any advantages of one over the other? Thanks

I did something very similar, but just used prussic loops on some tent poles I had.

A plus is that the tarp ridge line keeps the pole off the tarp. After doing this, I used the location of the prussics to figure out how long my tarp poles needed to be when I ordered them from Quest outfitters. (mine needed to be exactly 5')

That's a good strategy with the prussics but I think that chain on your hammock suspension is going to really weight you down

The biggest advantage of putting the poles under, is if your winter camping, snow will slide off better. You don't have that little shelf to collect it.

An advantage of this mod, is shorter poles= less weight.....RR

    Waiting..............

Quest has shipped my order. Should be able to fabricate things this weekend.

I am going to try shallow angle elbows at the ridgeline. And I have an old TNF tent (30 yrs) that has "urethane cancer" from which I will harvest suitable grommet-set nylon straps.

Thanks again for the the inspiration! Pics when done.
