My family and I are taking a trip at the end of this week to do some rafting on the Ocoee river. The trip will be through Adventures Unlimited and we are hammocking at there facilities. Last night my little brother brought up bears and this freaked out my sister-in-law. Any one with experience in this area of TN, I would really appreciate taping into that knowledge.

I rafted the Ocee many years back, and we camped at the outfitters office, can't remember the name. We had no issues with bears, but that does not mean we should have been prepared, not sure if they are an issue in that area or not.

You will not have any worry's with bears, but you can call the outfitter and talk with them if it will make you feel better.
My sister-in-law will feel much better about that.

I took a Sunday School group rafting there several years ago. We camped out on our own at a local campground. No problems whatsoever with bears, weather, etc. I think we may have even used AU for our rafting.Originally Posted by Jazilla
Go have a good time and don't let paranoia rule the day. (I've seen plenty of bears on the AT, and ever one of them ran away as soon as they knew humans were present.)
