Shawnee hangin' and a new convert

Just got back from a trip to Shawnee NF to do some herpin'. I convinced my dad to get a GT UL, and he tried it out last night. He's a believer now. He slept for 12 hours! I pitched my new Guide Gear 12x12 tarp over both of our hammocks as pictured. Thanks to dejoha for the great no-sew DIY PLUQ instructions; I used it last night along with a thin pad and it felt like an oven at about 40 degrees.

Not much luck with herps, but there's another hammocker in the crowd now.

12 hours, now that's a serious sleep! He was made for hammocking.

That is some serious slack time in the hammock! Nice depth of field with your camera...
Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!

At what point did you hold a mirror in front of your dad's mouth to make sure he was still breathing?

That looks like a great time.

That tarp is a biggun, ain't it? I picked one up, too.

Not necessary; the snoring was a dead giveaway (pun fully intended).

The tarp is huge. I bet I could fit 3 hammocks under it.

Thanks Arcs. That's my new 35mm 1.8 lens. It rarely comes off my camera these days.

What herps were you looking for?

Glad to hear how well that PLUQ worked for you...I've been debating on making one for summer use.

There's a well known area in Shawnee that has a biannual herp migration. I've been several times, and there's usually all kinds of great stuff: cottonmouths, rough greens, copperheads, and the occasional timber rattler, along with various skinks, frogs, and salamanders. I think the weather was a little too screwy this time. Still found a few larval salamanders, a rough green, and a couple ribbon snakes though!
