    Strap help

Hey guys I am a slight newbie to the wonderful world of hammocking. I saw one of my friends with a hammock and fell In love. I bought an ENO double nest and ENO slap straps... The slap straps let me down (literally) on more than one occasion so I decided to build some on line at cargoequipmentcorp.com these are the specifications of what I built:

    Strap Type: Complete Strap
    Width: 1"
    Webbing Strength: 2,500 lb Polyester
    Strap Color: BLACK
Strap Length Adjustable End: 22 feet 6 Inch ($ 4.73)
Strap Length Fixed End: 1 foot ($ 0.21)
    Tensioning Device: 1" Cam Buckle - 600 lbs. - Part# 607 - ($ 0.84)
    End Fitting Fixed End: 1" D-Ring - 5,000 lbs. - Part# 1703 - ($ 0.80)
    End Fitting Adjustable End: 1" D-Ring - 5,000 lbs. - Part# 1703 - ($ 0.80)

    Total: $7.38

Would love some feedback positive or negative and any suggestions.

    Thanx a million

From your description, it sounds like what I use.
I have the "Dock.Straps" made by Rodsaver. A 2 pack runs @ 6 bucks. Right now Academy has them for.$4.88 a pair. Wether you make them or buy them. I like the ease and.fast set up on the hammocks and tarps.

Just for reference this is the same post as this one http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=28924

Even though the first was put in the wrong place, double threads might confuse some! Just a FYI, not tryin to bust your chops!

upgrade the tensioning device, rated at 600. it's by far the weakest link in your system...
alternatively, downgrade the rest to come down to the 600 mark, you will save weight in your setup

If your heart is really set on cam buckles

I can heartily recommend the ones from Northwest River Supplies (NRS). They are rated at 2000# tensile strength.

Please be advised that toothed buckles will wear the straps, making them fuzzy and reducing the strap strength. For this reason I would not use cam buckles on light polyester web such as that sold by Arrowhead Equipment (AHE). Thicker, beefier cargo strapping should be OK though.
