    Footpad gathered end hammock problems.

So my current setup is a Warbonnet Traveler, Jarbridge 3/4 UQ, Marmot Sawtooth sleeping bag, and a Thermarest pad for the foot box. Yesterday was the first time using the pad in the footbox and I ran into a rather annoying problem, my feet would not stay in the hammock. A friend who had a similar setup, was complaining about the very same issue, so I don't think I'm alone with this issue.

The hammock I use doesn't have a dedicated footbox, rather it kinda forms with the weight of my legs and feet on the material. With the Thermarest pad under my feet they no longer have the force to create a footbox. Instead it just floats on top of the hammock, the slickness of the sleeping bag and hammock materials makes it nearly impossible for it to stay put. There was one spot where it would stay on the hammock, if I moved, adjusted or did pretty much anything my feet would slide off.

I was sleeping in 25F so removing the pad was not an option, deflating the pad to about half pressure helped a little. Anyone familiar with this issue, and have a simple fix for it?

If it's a netless hammock you could try adding a knotty mod. That creates a kind of footbox and helps keep things in the hammock.

The Knotty mod is one option. Another is hangnout footbox. I use that one on all my netless hammocks.

I think this is what MAD's referring to.

Why not put the pad in the sleeping bag? When I use a pad, I stick it in the footbox of my topquilt. It never moves.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

The pad is in the sleeping bag, the whole lot (my feet included) keep sliding off the side of the hammock.

I've used my jacket to wrap around my feet and hammock and that kept me in place. Not an ideal solution but it works. I really solved that problem by buying a WBBB. Keeps you in closed.

This has happened to me too. I found that hanging the foot end a few inches higher stopped it from happening. I guess I was sliding down at night and with the foot end higher I stay in that sweet spot in the middle.

This should fix your problem. I used to have the same problem back in the day. I saw this suggestion and tried it...plain and simple is it works.

I'd say that's the trick to it, I sometimes use the same pad in mine and having it deflated helps a bunch. Try a piece of Reflectix which works well too.
