This has been addressed, and despite my best efforts it didn't work out too well.

HOWEVER, if there's a group of hangers in your area (for instance, a lot of the hangers in SC are members of Palmetto State Hangers), you can do something like a Google+ hangout. We do, and it's a blast.

For the record, I like the idea of a HammockForums chat, but there are enough people either adamantly opposed to simply not caring to keep something like that from taking off.

I wonder if it's because it is more difficult to moderate a diplomatic "live" chat, and the goal to keep it family-friendly might be compromised.... The variables are increased considerably. Great concept, though.

I think it is more to do with, any good information that is developed/discussed in the chat room is not recorded for all to see in the regular forum posts and thus is lost.

    Cheers

It would be great. The lost information line is completely wrong. I was an admin on a forum with a chat for 5 years, and it is a very good feature. Anything that is ever brought up that hasn't been adressed in the forums yet, always gets posted in the forums. Plus, you always have the option of scrolling back through the chat if you wanted to as well. I don't care what anyone says, the chat would work...

I like hammockforums just the way it is...the way some people post, it might as well be a chat anyways. I think one of the reasons there is an off topic section is for that reason, so people can chat it up with any and all topics. I will say I am not against it, but why fix something that's not broken? We have many other ways of communicating in this day and age...

    Real-time Chat

We did go down this road a few months ago. I am still against having a chat. You don't mess with something that works so well. I do think some of the universal community aspects would get diminished by the addition of a chat. There are plenty of other channels for those that want to chat.

I was staff at another forum for a while. Chat is pretty hard to handle.
I'd vote no to having a chat room on the forum.

+1 Agreed. I already have seven ways to chat with anyone about anything and do not need another. Nor do I wish to miss out on the great "chats", fourm postings, I already find here.
