Help me pick a topquilt/sleeping bag.

I upgraded from my PLUQ to an incubator and now want to upgrade my MSS patrol bag as well.

    Hopefully you guys can help.

I have a gift card to Cabelas for $100 and my personal budget is another $100 tops, so help me pick.

I am considering pretty hard the Kelty Cosmic Down 20, it weighs the same as a patrol bag and should be much warmer, but I am not opposed to synthetic either since the maintenance is less and they are more water resistant.

Does anyone have any experience with the Columbia Reactor? Slightly heavier but it has that neat reflective lining.

My plan was to keep the system the same for 3 season, using the bag as a quilt in the summer and zipped up as a sleeping bag on the colder nights, paired with the incubator it should be plenty warm.

Winter time I have extra gear I can layer into the system to dip down to 0, I have done it before but the loadout on my homemade peapod and underquilt was super heavy, hopefully not so much next winter.

    Thanks guys.

The North Face Alpenglow Series Cats Meow fits the bill if your interested in synthetic fill. Also check out the thread about the Ozark Trail down bag https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=69242

    Hope I could help
    Cheers

I started a thread on several synthetic bags a month ago. Ended up buying the Montbell Spiral Burrow Bag 30 ($120) at backcountry.com. I LOVE the bag. Very light, compact, and inexpensive. We get alot of humidity and fog and I just wanted a syn. bag for piece of mind.

    Good luck with your search.

Thread was titled Any experience with these bags? in Top Insulation forum.

    Thanks.

I did see the Ozark bag in Walmart the other day and took it out and fondled it a bit, seemed like it would be a decent piece of gear if used within its limits.

My gift card is to Cabelas or LL Bean (good at both) so I am limited to those two stores for my purchase.

Re: Help me pick a topquilt/sleeping bag.

They had a Eureka bag display at the CT Cabela's, I took a pic of one, but there were other models with different temp ratings. They looked to compact pretty well.

Also, there was Cabela's brand bags (XPG maybe?) that were slightly less expensive & packed down pretty good. Think they weighed a few oz more though.

I also have Cabela's gift cards to burn. It's either one of these or the Walmart bag & use the cards for some wicking T's... Decisions decisions!

I would go with the TQ but the incubator was actually money I shouldn't have spent, luckily I have the Cabelas card to spend on a bag. I figured I could just use it at a top quilt for now, plus it would be another bag in the collection.

The way it has been so warm lately though I may not even need one this summer.

It looks like your choices are ranging from a slight upgrade to a lateral move. If you're looking to keep the same setup for several years, you might want to keep using what you have until you can fund what you want.
There are other options out there not far from your $100 cash allotment.
