If you walked through it opened up to a fairly large open area that we camped many times. It was not right on the trail but off about 50 to 75feet off the actual trail. It has been over 6 years since I was up there. Wasn't a hanger back then, but there were trees. If anyone goes up there and wants to check this spot out may be a consideration.

I know what spot you're talkin about. I was planning on camping there sometime this fall after the crowds were gone. I can try to check it out next weekend, camping at Panther Creek falls this weekend so I won't have a chance to go up there this one.

That's Mountain Crossings, it's actually right on the AT. If you go one direction it takes you up Blood Mountain, the other direction takes you by Cow Rock.

theres ample parking and vogul state park is right there, and should be a great group site, with many trailhead of its own, including wolf creek pass. ive camped there ample hammock spots.

Where is the group site youre talkin about? A few people have mentioned theyd rather not hike much.

You can't leave cars at the Mountain Crossings store - it's for customers. The Byron Reese public parking lot is 1/4 mi away on 129, but it maxes out on weekends; Vogel state park's not too far away.

From the outfitter's, the trail up Blood is steep but the views on a clear day are good. North toward Low Gap is more gradual.

Big Cedar is a little over a mile AT north of Woody Gap - between Dahlonega and Suches. Often referred to as Preachers Rock. Two overlooks, the second one further on the trail has good places to hang and is much less windy. Its on a blue blaze as the AT starts decending.
