    One Tree Hammock Chair

I made a hammock chair after getting the idea while reading SteelerNation's combination chair thread.

It is made out of JoAnn Fabric's 1.9 ripstop nylon and is 54"x40".

I wanted to be able to hang it between two trees or just one so the lower end has both a channel to gather it and pole pockets. The upper end attaches to the tree with a tree hugger/marlin spike/whoopie sling just as a regular hammock.

I don't like the looks of the stress at the pockets and will probably remake it with a 200D nylon pocket and reinforcing patch on the top side.

It works well as a two tree chair and is VERY comfortable as a no squeeze one tree chair with poles.

Looks great. I would definitely reinforce the pockets.

Thanks Dutch. I have a couple of ideas on strengthening the pockets.

I never would have thought trekking poles would be able to take the weight. I'd be afraid of bending or breaking them.

Seems like maybe you could just add some pockets to a standard hammock so you could use it as a chair and later as your sleeping hammock without needing to carry one for just your chair.

Very nice design but I don't know if I would trust my dainty 285lbs in it using hiking poles.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I guessing the poles only have ~1/2 your weight split between the two of them. Less than half actually. The weight from my knees down is still on the ground. I do have to be careful to place them correctly so that I can't contact them from the side. Trail sticks could be used as well if the ends were rounded.

This is still a very comfortable experiment in progress.

I can't reach high enough to hang my 10'-6" hammock in this fashion.

This "chair" is only 54" long and is to be used as a gear hammock as well. Use WP nylon, add shock cord and you have a pack cover as well. This first version weighs in the neighborhood of 3 oz.
