Talking Learned a new way to read a book with a hammock!!

I didn't know my friends brother was going to bring his hammock, but I'm glad he did because he showed us how to read a book!! I thought you might enjoy this. He had a double layer hammock (said it was Thai army issue),. and he liked to sleep between the layers. Anyway, if he wants to read, he just sets it on the ground and rolls over until the opening is on the bottom. I tried it and it was surprisingly comfortable.

I still don't have my HH yet (Canada Post has screwed up) but, why can't you lay on you back to read?

Good thread. I sometimes do something similar in my bridge hammock without the endcap on. I can lay on my stomach with my chin resting on the hammock but the top of my head hanging over the edge, reading the book on the ground. More comfortable than it sounds. Any hammock with a ridgeline is also really good for reading; just slip the open book above the ridgeline and below the netting.

An army that issues hammocks to its soldiers sounds interesting, although I can see why they'd be almost necessary in Thailand.

I think my neck muscles would start to ache in short order.

Any info on the Thai army hammock?

I'll have to make sure my end caps are removable when I get a round to making my bridge. So what keeps the book open in your ridgeline method?? Not the netting, because it is under that. I'm envisioning the ridgline inserted in the spine like a bookmark. Is that not what is happening?
