I'd say he is hurting for business. Better stuff comes along. Innovate or go out of business.

If you have any evidence of Ed's business status, I'd be interested in hearing it. Otherwise, it's not very helpful to publicly speculate on a man's situation in such a negative tone...especially someone with Ed's reputation and the loyal following his products have.

I still think his quilts are still some of the best out there. The only reason I sold my snugfit, and it was a tough decision, was to help make my first bulk order of down.

I also still have my SWT and use it all the time. I love that thing. Simple and light.

Maybe he is just ready for some new freedom. Who knows. Maybe we will get more news at the Hot Spings Hang coming up.

The following is a quote from Ed's web site:" We are in the process of changing our manufacturing process.
During the transition, certain items may temporarily be out of stock; if so they will be removed from this website.
Sorry we don't accept orders or advance payment for out-of-stock items. We apologize for any inconvenience. " This may explain the status of the SWT--Hopefully it will be back and this is just a temporarily out of stock thing. --John

I emailed Ed and he replied that these items would perhaps be reintroduced soon. I do not want to tell everyone why, because he said in his email that he would be posting it on the forum, but it's a good thing. "the Speer is Here" to stay. In fact, according to Smithobx's post above, he has already put it on his websight.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

I recently discovered that my hammock sock with it's SEEP (Side Entry/Exit Portal) makes a great suspension for using a Speer Top Blanket as an UQ.

Except for the PeaPod, my Speer gear (SWT, TB, hammock) is the lightest way to go.

Rumors of the demise of Speer are apparently somewhat exaggerated!

MacEntyre, what temp range have you found your PPod usable to BY ITSELF, if you have ever yet tried to use it that way? Or maybe by itself plus whatever clothing you might have along on a not too cold trip?

I've used it at 24*F by itself.

Thing1 used it at Mt Rogers, 8*F with a little IX pad for anti-CBS. She had a lot of clothing on...
