    my DIY M50 Hammock - the "M 5-oh"

I made a hammock out of Momentum 50 fabric from thru hiker. This stuff looks and feels super fragile...but its light so I had to make a hammock out of it!!! I weigh 175 lbs dressed and I am 5'10". So I started out with 114" of fabric and hemmed the ends and the sides. It turned out to be 110" long once I gathered the ends.

I am calling the ol hammock "M-5-oh" ....haha like Hawaii 5-0 Because this thing feels oooohhhhh so nice when you lay in it. Like I can't even describe how awesome it is. It really does not stretch a ton...nothing more than most hammocks do. But it feels really really soft. Like the inside of your down quilt soft.

Here is the 5-oh hangin for the first time

I could not wait to jump in it...so I actually slept in it the first night...hahah. After a full nights sleep, and I wiggled around in it a ton trying to get it to break and nothing. Just more amazing comfort.

Here is a pic of me laying in it

I whipped the ends Knotty style. I used tech line from DIY gear supply to tie them together. I also used that to make the ridge line. The stuff weighs nothing and seems to be very strong. I used my amsteel whoopies for the suspension. It just does not get much easier than that. I did double stitch the ends...really I am not sure it would matter. But I did. You can kinda see the stitching in the pic. The thread is red. You can kinda get the idea of how small that knot is comparing it to my thumb.

The 5-oh weighs hardly anything and I am pretty sure i could just put it in my front pocket if I wanted to. The garbage bag analogy holds true, except you can sleep in it

So I threw it on the scale, this is with ridge line and whoopies.

I think my tree straps and toggles weigh another 3oz so total setup would be just over 8oz. That is freaking light!!!!

Very nice work. I like it. The M50 is some nice fabric to work with and is very comfotable to lay in a hammock made out of it.

Great job. Nice looking hammock. It was fun meeting you and your sons at the REI last week. Hope to cross paths again. This adds to the reasons to lose weight to not overload gear. Say hi to the boys and again, nice work

All these super light materials make me wish I wasn't 275#.

Plan on being <250 next spring but wouldn't trust a single layer.
