Any word/thoughts on location?
Any word/thoughts on location?
I'm in if I can find/make a new tarp by then - did a test hang in my in-laws back woods and woke up covered in snow.
Beaks/doors are a must (or a sock)
Otherwise, 20 degree revelationx and a ranger blanket uqp kept me snug and warm.
Qualified to do almost anything with almost nothing. Ask me how!
Hey guys.
Nice to see a little buzz for this trip. Personally I'm getting stoked and am going to start dehydrating soon.
Where or where to go? That's the question. A couple of considerations;
If we want to meet up with anyone already on a winter trip (re: Jayson), then unless he wants to relocate, we'll need their trip plan.
Does anyone have any info on the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park? Looks interesting. I've never been there, but it offers winter camping and ice-fishing.
Any crown land options for hanging/ice-fishing?
Of course, I don't need to ice-fish so Algonquin's always a nice fallback. Take any one of several established snowshoe trails and then jump off the trail when we find a good spot.
I'd rather camp by a lake to allow for easy access to water. Boiling snow's feasible, but nothing beats a billy of the liquid stuff!

I have a Hennessy Monsoon tarp you can use for the hang. It has clip on doors at both ends and has kept me dry on many a rainy night in the hammock. It doesn't have huge coverage down to the ground but if you build up snow walls it should keep the wind out pretty well. Also, a canvas hammock sock is easy to make and really keeps the wind off you. Go get a canvas painters tarp from Lowes for the material.
A lotta ins... lotta outs... lotta what-have-you's
I'm supposed to work that weekend, but with some fanaggling and luck I may be able to pull it off.
No signs,no fees,no rules, nobody. My kind of campsite.
My torn shoulder took longer to heal up than I expected so finances say weekend only. Good with whereever.
I am going to hijack your location after you leave
I'm off Monday Feb 24-->Wednesday Feb 26. ( and I have the OK from my wife )
I'll be using the same location as you guys ( as long as it's not too far - otherwise Im heading to Algonquin)
I have never been to Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. Its got my vote.
Kawartha sounds interesting. Here's some things to keep the mood going.
