New River on order - my first UQ

So.... after a very uncomfortable night last month caused me to reassess the limitations of my gear, I finally made the plunge last night and ordered a New River UQ. I was initially looking at the ENO Ember, but I figured supporting the cottage industry would be a better way to go, and knew that I could count on the customer service based on the comments of others. I was also tempted by the price of the Jarbidge, but for me, the extra cost and bulk of the full length New River seems justified. My feet are STILL a little cold from The Night of a Thousand Chills©. For the record, that would be 19* and a light snow. I know many of you have gone a lot lower, but for this guy it was a record.

I would love to hear opinions or stories of the New River under similar conditions to keep me excited while I wait.

I had a New River down to 30 in a 40mph wind and blowing snow for 2 nites and was toast. Your good to go with this UQ and the way its very nicely made. Happy Hanging with your New River Quilt.

Good choice. New to hammock camping and bought a new river myself and was also thinking about the eno. After reading reviews that were only so so I decided to go with the new river. First night with the uq was a snowy and 24 degree night and the second night was a frosty 10. The uq worked fine and the only thing that was cold was my feet. Like I said I'm new to this also so still have a lot to learn.

I've had mine down to 23* and was warm with a 20* TQ. If you use the side loops to keep it snugged up the New River keeps you toasty well below the temp rating.

So keeping it snug like that doesn't cause a problem with losing loft? I must admit I am a bit ignorant about the construction details. From what I gathered (looking at the Climashield webside) the insulation in these things is in a "matt" rather than loose fiber. I don't have any first hand experience with this so I don't really know how well it holds up under "pressure".

even with a full length UQ (0 degree down) my feet were still cold, I ended up with Flamethrower socks from AHE, never a cold toe again. I have been using the apex jarbidge recently and love the combo with a 20 degree down TQ

I have a set of these. I have given them to my son and daughter now as we have lightened up with down. However my last use of these I was very very comfortable down to the mid teens. I did wear a pair of wool socks and a wool hat but not sure either were needed. You are in for very easy setup once you get it dialed in and the end to cbs. You might want to look into triangle thingies or soething similar to help with dialing in though.

I've slept in mine down in the low 20s several times with no problems.

Got mine 3 wks ago. Set it up like 2fly and slept in high 30's, used a 40 deg bag on top and was toasty. I sleep very cold. I love my KAQ New River. I'm sure you will too.
