Sorry, ikemouser -- I tried them in mason line only and didn't take any pictures, but eventually abandoned the idea since I didn't see any advantage over friction knots. In fact the Marshalltown mason line I recently bought at Home Depot is so tightly braided that I couldn't even make an eye splice in the end, so no whoopie slings with that batch of line.

No. I'm still using the braided mason line, but secured with a slippery becket hitch (essentially a sheet bend onto an eye) like here:

Ok I dont want to get too far off topic here but I had a comment. First of all, I love the becket hitch and use it to tie two cords of differnt diameters together all the time...it is just so simple. I guess the sheet bend and Becket hitch are the same thing. I really like the idea of using the slipped sheet bend,(though I use a different method for stakes).

Just completed my first woopie sling in 1/8" paracord. I think it's paracord anyway. I know it was military issue (we got a 32 gallon bucket of it from the local armory) and it is the only cord we have here at work. Since I'm here until 8am tomorrow, I thought I would give it a try with what I have. I think it will be sufficient for guy lines (please let me know if any disagree).
I removed the interior strands, cut the cord to app. 12", used a small paperclip as a needle, and followed TeeDee's woopie sling instructions in the suspension thread. Seems to work great. We'll see how it holds up when attached to my stock tarp.
I'll let you all know how it works in the field. Thanks for the help guys.
Slingin' the day (and night) away. -John
An old thread- but perhaps someone is reading this now- like I did.
Paracord is sheathed with a braided cover, its strength is not from this cover but the long fiber/cord core the sheathing contains and protects. So you can splice it but you need to bring this "core" along with it, and the proportions of bury and perhaps needed whipping will be different then a whoopie sling.
They are not the same thing.
Rope diameter?
