Update: Picked up my gear making power tool last night!! I ended up getting the Kenmore 110 stitch computerized machine. I'm stoked.
I've got to take care of some honey do's with the wife and kid today but hopefully will get to play with the new toy tonight after BBQing for the inlaws.
YEAY!!! I got my new sewing machine in the mail today. I am so excited to get to use it.

1st piece of gear made ever.
Took me last night and this morning to make the cover. Last night, I made the pattern out of newspaper, and cut the pieces from the fabric. Got up this morning, played with the little one and then got to sewing. I started out pretty slow but got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Thanks again everyone for the input on machines. I think I got a good one as I made my first piece of "gear" wihtout a single hiccup from the machine.
