Got my 201😆 gonna need some work but I got it for a good price. It ran when I picked it up but was very slow and the cabinet that it was in was in bad shape, hope it just needs cleaned, oiled, and greased. Gonna break it down tonight and will keep y'all posted on how it goes. Here's a link to the 201-2 Adjusters Manual...all the info you need.

Sewing machine oil at all of the oiling points, sewing machine grease or Tri-flow teflon grease on the gears.

Remove the motor/gear housing, clean out all the old dried up grease and only use Singer motor grease or plain vaseline to replace it (the grease has to have a low melting point to wick through the felt wicks to lubricate the motor bearings). I replace the wicks while I'm at it.

The motor brushes and armature usually need cleaned up as well.

Jenny has everything you need at Sew-Classic LLC.

Picked up this 1948 15-90 (same as 15-91, but belt-drive), with cabinet & seat today at an estate sale for $12.50. Already have a 201-2 which I love but grabbed this 'cause it had tons of attachments (and also as a backup?). Cleaned up nice and runs good but couldn't find a bobbin amongst all the stuff so haven't actually stitched, er, um, injected with it yet.

    My favorite Necchi BU

This is one of four Necchi machines I own. Real work horses. Will sew many layers of canvas and leather. Frank the rabbit sleeps under the pull out seat on warm nights.

I picked up a Singer this weekend which looks very similar to the Singer 201-# pictures. How can I find the model number on these old Singer sewing machines? It runs, but I would like to give it a thorough cleaning and oil.

    Thanks -

UPDATE - Nevermind - I found it, it is a 201-2 based on the walking through this site: http://www.sandman-collectibles.com/...achines.htm#44

Looks just like my BU. Sweet. I've seen a lot of different cabinets for these. Never seen the one you have.

    Cheers

It's a nice cabinet...the "drawers" are really the back of the chair.

    GREAT THREAD(pun intended)

just dug out an old(1926) Singer treadle that has been in storage for over 20 years

the all in tact cabinet had been revarnished sometime in her distant past & is still in nice shape

wiped the dust off'n her & treated her to a new, round, leather belt

strung some old string thru the little hole in the pointy thing that goes up n down & wrapped some more around the little round spoolie thing, under the slidy plate

slipped a folded blue paper shop towel under the tiny camel toe

after that, i just pulled on the wheel & started peddling

after a coupla simple adjustments, nice evenly spaced little stitches began following each other, kinda like the muncher on the old PAC-MAN game, all over the paper towel

it's darn near impossible to kill these old treadles & this one is proof

guess it's tyme to give her a job

organizer bags & stuff sacks come immediately to mind

just as a BTW... i've been told SINGER TREADLES are still being produced & can still be found in shops in 3rd world countries, where elecjuicity aint sew common

Nothing wrong with a nice 66 treadle.
