hammock post in back yard

thinking of putting up some 4x4 post in back yard along with the trees i have to back hanging spots. with the wat trees are now i can put 2 post in ground 15' apart and 15' from the 2 trees to give me 3 spots to hang. the 2 trees are only 9' apart so no hanging there.
so would be from one tree to post, and next from other tree to other post and one between the 2 post.

looking for input if anyone has used 4x4 post to hang from and if so just how well has it worked and if any other extra support.
im thinking that 4 foot in the ground and would be attaching at about 6 feet up on post.

any one do this and has it worked out good or been any problems or would i need any thing extra.

We have not done that, but we have a somewhat similar experience to share. My brother tried to hang from two washline poles that were buried 2 feet deep, and cemented. He pulled them over. At 4 feet deep, you'll hopefully be alright, but you may want to consider some concrete/cement.

yes sorry meant to say would have concrete around post 4 foot deep too.
not so much worried about pulling out of ground but shearing off post at the point it comes out of concrete.
don't have the real world numbers like an engineer would but from my experience of building homes I think I will be just fine.
plus thought if needed could put guy lines out off back of post if I start to see any sign of problems.

I would use 4x6 minimum if it will be used often. Put the 6" side inline with hammock.

4x4 will warp fast and not as strong as you would think.

Highly recommend that you do not use 4x4 post, go with at least 4x6 post. I had two 4x4 post break while hanging. I upgraded to 7"-8" diameter pier pilings ( think telephone poles. Planted them 3 to 4 feet deep and back filled with dirt. Have not had any problems since ( also makes a great place to hang laundry from when not hanging )

that is very cool looking. i like the thought of hanging alot of hammocks liek that will have to do some sweet talking to my sweetheart to get more than 2 planted

what do you think about me cutting my own from trees my back woods and using those for the poles?

Only issue I see is rot. I am using pier pilings that are treated to resist decay and are used as pier pilings and for building raised houses around here.

well that gives me more to think about before i go any farther with this. i want to to be safe. not only my butt in one but kids and friends too.

4x6 or bigger is the way to go. I've used 4x4 landscape timbers on my beach setup with my eno before, but with a fixed ridgeline hammock, it put too much pressure on the post and would pull in. I had a 6" 20 foot tree wash up on the beach a couple weeks ago, so I cut it in half, buried about 4 feet of it and it's very stable. They always say, only hang as high as you would feel safe to fall....
