Re: Is there a way to jump to a specific post number?

Click the # number in the top right of any post.
This is a direct link to the individual post within the thread.

I think what he means is, for example, you look at the PIF spreadsheet and see something you like, look at the post number, and now want togo to the PIF thread to look at it. How could you quickly find that post without searching through each page....

Unless the user list which post it was in the PIF spreadsheet then I don't see how that would be possible.

Every PIF offering includes the post # in which it was offered on the spreadsheet.

I have spent a good deal of time looking for a particular post in the PIF thread after finding it on the spreadsheet in order to respond to the pst when maing a claim.

Adding this functionality would greatly benefit those who regularly use PIF, and it might even increase usage of PIF, but I'm not sure how beneficial it would be otherwise.

I don't believe this is something that can be 'enabled' or 'disabled' in vbulletin. I think it's just not a possibility, and is based on the limitations of the software.

Each post within each thread has a unique ID that identifies it as part of the thread, but also seems to identify it as to where it's located on the page. This is the number that is listed when you quote someone in your reply. This doesn't seem to follow a pattern that is uniform and able to be altered to automatically list a post by entering in a URL - you'd need to now that code, not just the post number.

If it were simpler - i.e. if you could say "The thread ID is X, and the post number is Y" then you you could create a URL that sent you to thread X post Y, and just change Y to match the post number you are looking for. But alas, this does not seem to be how the forum software operates, and out of the control of the mods and admins. All posts in a thread do not seem to have the same thread ID code, nor do all posts on the same page in a thread have the same thread OR page code.

I'm by no means an expert on the forum software. Just did a little googling last night, and that seems to be what I could find. Take it for what it's worth.

Here is what you can do.
Look at the PIF spreadsheet and find out what the post number is.
Click on the following url below.
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showpost.php?p=
This url will bring page saying "Invalid Post specified" message.
Now go to that url in the address block of the browser and added the post number after the "="

    Example:
If the post number is 8386 then the url should look like this
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showpost.php?p=8386

Maybe just add a column to the spreadsheet asking them to cut/past the link to that specific post.

i.e., for Post 16 by SilentOrpheus

In the thread, go to the url:

Type "&post#x" at the end of the url (in this example, I'm looking for Post #25):

    Attachment 55574

and hit enter or reload page. VOILA!!! Good luck!

    Edit:

Back the truck up: This doesn't work in the PIF thread, for some reason! DOH!
