    muskoka crown land paddle+ supermoon

Headed out this weekend for a couple days of paddling on a secret location near bala Ontario on some crown land. For those non-canadians, crown land is wilderness land owned and managed by the country and available for an citizen to camp on.

The first lake we were on had a bunch of cottages on it but plenty of land to camp on. We arrived at 7:30ish and paddled an hour into dark before setting up camp. We had a nice landing spot but because of the unregulated use there were a half dozen fire pits in the same area. The spot had a great view of the inlet and the super bright moon. After a visit from some ATV locals out for a drink we put in for a relatively early night.

Next morning (actually early afternoon - slept in) we headed a few km to the end of the lake and portaged to a more isolated lake. We looked around for a nice spot to camp, unfortunately passing up two really nice spots since my ground hugging friends couldn't find enough flat ground.

On the plus side, I've convinced one to try a hammock next time out.

The site we settled on had a nice view but was overdeveloped.
W ended up packing a bunch of garbage out.

I'll add that the moon was so crazy bright that we didn't even need flashlights.

Next day was a 10 km paddle out dodging motorboats.

High temps were about 18°C and lows around 2°C. Clear skies and first sunburn of the year.

    Lakeside camp looks real good...
Opens up another avenue for travel/adventure, will have to check the classifieds for something cheap to paddle.

    Thanks for sharing, keg.

I was in a beat up old fibreglass 14' canoe. I'll post a pic of my buddy's inflatable kayak when I get it.

Looks like that waterfall would be a fun ride, have to get yourself a whitewater boat though.

First drop is over 10'. It is supposedly common for people to misjudge the current on the top side and get swept over. A friend of a friend had to be airlifted out.
