    DIY Gear Hammock/Camp Seat

I made a DIY Gear Hammock/Camp Seat that I use to store my gear at night. It's also a pack cover, etc, etc.

Here is part two of the videos that shows it in use:

Good luck and have fun with it! I found it to be reasonably simple. If you look in the forum thread, you'll find a PDF that I drew with the dimensions.

I found your thread for this gear hammock just in time to make one for my Secret Spaceweasel/Secret Santa hanger. Since he is a big and tall guy, I made it out of 1.9 black ripstop and made it double layered, in case he ever wants to use it as a camp chair. I really want to make one for myself, mostly to use as a wilderness chair near the campfire.

Hope he doesn't read this or you won't be so secret

Double 1.9 should certainly do the trick .

Love to set mine up during my mid-day breaks as well. Love those looks that you get when you're feet are kicked up in a recliner and they are sitting on a rock. . . .

    Secret Spaceweasel/Santa Revealed

Hahaha! There is such a good story about this. When I was given the name of my SS, I was so excited, because he happens to be one of my best hanger friends! I had so much fun making the gear hammock for him and decorating his package with all kinds of fun sayings. I even put rattling items inside to drive him crazy. When he got his package, he told me all about it and how cool his gifts were. I didn't say a word about it being me!!! I just agreed how that was really cool and how I would love to have one like that.
Well, we Palmetto Hangers were planning to meet up for REV's Frozen Butt Hang in January and I really wanted to let Gresh know my secret identity. Now, I didn't want to just come out and tell him...how much fun would that be?? So I devised a plan with Cowboy to break the news to Gresh in a way that he would instantly know the truth...I SOOO wanted to see the look on his face when the reality hit him. So, during the hang, Cowboy pulled out a gear hammock that he had made. While showing it off, he ever so casually said, "Gresh, not everyone can have a cute little bug make them a nice gear hammock like yours." Gresh looked at me and said, "YOU were my Secret Santa??" I was about to burst at that point. I confirmed that I was indeed. We had a great time talking how sneaky I had been.
The gear hammock makes an appearance in this video from our recent SC Spring Swing 2013 at the 02:15 min mark. Notice Gresh's embellishment of the story behind the gear hammock, haha.

I use a military net hammock I found at the surplus. It's lights and packs to half the size of a baseball.
