No problem for this happy camper !
Ok, you were TOTALLY right! Ken got me going and I have the NC map and the waypoints and tracks! WOW!
But here's my problem. I've been looking at the elevation profiles on MapSource and track records of existing trails that I've viewed are either straight up OR straight down OR straight up and then down and then up! ! ! ! What gives ! ! ! This is worse than WV ! ! ! Is that possible???? My knees are going to be in big trouble. Definitely bring my hiking poles!

Ahem ... yeah she's an unforgiving "Big Ditch" this Linville Gorge ... and that's one of the reasons the guys will tell ya ... a mile in the Gorge is not like any mile outside of it. However, that said ... there are some more knee friendly places and even Rock Jock can be a great 4 and half mile hike.
Definitely bring your poles and if you find you've ever benefited from knee or ankle support ... ya will here too.
Shug used both ankle braces for his 9 days in the ditch this past spring!

With an Oregon GPS, seriously look into Topofusion. I have the Oregon 450, also...and IMO, Topofusion mates perfectly with it.
Why?
TF will export ALL of its basemap data (many sources) into .kmz files of the correct tile dimensions to use as a "Custom Maps" and it will save it straight onto the GPS for you.
Using .kmz files, you can overlay as many gps tracks as you wish on the map, and they get displayed on the GPS, also.
mtbikernate, will definitely give it a try. thanks. i'm learning so much gps stuff right now, my head is exploding. clean-up in aisle seven!
