Max length between trees

I have enough cord to go to 40', but I usually find trees less than 20' apart. The farthest apart my selected trees have ever been is probably 25'. I hesitate to shorten the lengths as I would hate to not have enough for that perfect spot. Since I'm using Amsteel, the weight-penalty for the exess cord is negligible. I suspect that the lengths of my suspension is way too long.

This past weekend was my first hang having to use trees that were spaced farther than I usually try to pick them. My guess-ta-ment is they were in the 25'ish range. No trouble tieing up as I've switched my ropes to Amsteel and I carry plenty. I did have to test it out and then tighten up the ropes because I almost wound up on the ground when I sat in the hammock. New learning curve here for wider spaced trees!!! Ended up with a near perfect hang!! From now on I'm gonna actually try to find trees spaced a bit wider apart than what I've formally been looking for.

Can do 25' with Hammock, 6' whoopie slings, and the extra length from my 5' tree huggers (if it's a moderate sized tree).

Hammock - 8'
(2) Slings - 12'
(2) Huggers ~5'

I voted " 25' - 29' ", but I think I can go just a bit farther. I too use whoopie slings, & while I haven't tested it with the whoopies, my experience with my ring buckles & straps, regardless of the rigidity of your suspension (lack of stretch) there is a limit to how far apart your trees can be. At around 30' with my straps, I had to tie to the tree well over my head, (7'?) JUST to keep my hammock off the ground. So, for those carrying the long suspension, I suggest finding a woods & rig till you find how far apart your maximum is till you are laying on the ground even after reaching as high as you can.

For me, the 30' is about right. My minimum (due to the length of my tarp) is 13.6 feet, so that still allows me over 16' of "Play" & I think I can still stay off the ground at the maximum distance. And as someone said on another post 1" or 10' (off the ground) it still feels the same.

Doctari beat me to it, but I was going to say that 25' is about the limit if you aren't carrying a ladder. I suppose you could push your straps up with trekking poles if needed, but that is well beyond the norm I would think.

Actually I do - my Dixon Roller pack makes a great second tree when only one is suitable.

I said 15-19 olny because of how high the straps have to be put beyond that. there is also the problem with the size of the trees that you are using.
