More lurking and researching seems warranted... I am actually already kind of wishing I bought the 50L Jam pack instead of the 35L pack because I have a tendency to over pack on trips in general (never know when you might need X, Y, or Z...)

There's lots of other lighter packs out there. I've been researching a few and finally decided on one( SMD Starlite). Check out some other vendors besides Golite(awesome packs)

Here's a spreadsheet I did. The Jam 50 is on there

Nice spreadsheet. Its stunning to see how light some of these packs are. Can't imagine needing anything lighter than what my 35L weighs! It feels like air compared to all of the other packs I have (camera, computer, etc). especially considering how comfortable it is with a load in it. I put 20lbs of lead weight (soft sided bags) just to see and even though the weight was all on the bottom it was almost unnoticeable.

I was floored when I started looking into getting a new pack and saw how much lighter they were compared to my old Gregory Palisades 80(98 oz!). I picked up a Golite Odyssey with more space and half the weight.

Going ultralight cuts out a lot of crap you really don't need and focuses on the basics. There really shouldn't be a reason to carry more than 20-30 lbs for short trips. I still can't believe I used to lug around 50lbs for trips. My knees are happier now.

Lurk around backpackinglight.com Wealth of info and gear reviews there.

    Cheers!

LOL, I used to live on the north side of Lancaster right at the intersection of 30 and 272. The Amish drove me insane because they would go by my apartment in the middle of the night in their buggies and it would always wake me up. Clip, clop, clip, clop...

Thanks! And what a nice offer. I used to spend a ton of time down in that area for work. Basically lived in a hotel in VA Beach for a year.
