Help with air valves on DIY compressible stuff sacks.

I want to make my own stuff bags and there are a few features I want it to have. In order to make them I need help finding gear and som ideas.

-Made out of silnylon or similar (waterproof).
-Roll top closure like sea to summit bags

    Also...

I've seen bags with air valves that lets the air out the bottom of the sack when you roll the top down. Then the valve is closed and you have a very compressed stuff sack.

My first idea was to make a "schnozzle" and skip the valve but then I saw the exped schnozzel pump bag and realized I want something like that so now the wishlist is:

    -waterproof
    -roll top closure
-able to pump my exped mats
-able to let air out but not in when closed.

Does anyone know where I can find valves to put in my bags. Preferably but not necessarily like the ones used on exped mats.
I've looked around a little but so far I've mostly found poor quality stuff made for childrens swimming toys.

Looking forward to hear your ideas.
    /Robin.

I'm gonna go way on a design limb here and say that the type of one-way valves you have mentioned can be found on many foil based bags that coffee beans come in. You may have to do some test runs to determine the best way to attach it to the bag (silicone?) and if the flow of escaping air is enough for your application.

If this works, PM me and I will tell you where to send one!

Great idea, I never, ever, would have thought of that. I am going to give your recycling idea some serious consideration I love it!

Well... I'm not sure that's the valve I'm gonna go with but I appreciate the idea. I found this site

    Oops...
I now have spent HOURS looking for a valve similar to expeds but no luck so far.

    Ideas? Anyone?

I like that they are reasonably flat compared to other valves I have found.

Or perhaps anyone of you know of another forum where I might find my answer?

    Still... I can't let the "coffee-idea" go

Not sure. if this would apply?? what about those Clothing storage bags? that you hook up a vacuum cleaner to it. TO expel the air, for a Tight small compress bag.

might be a route too explore?.

I eventually found what was I looking and closer to home than I would have hoped for, Denmark, the country next doors

    http://www.carmo.dk/gb/product/medical/filler-valve/

To me they look very similar to the ones used by exped. One little problem though...

I think they are best suited for high frequency welding and I'm pretty unsure I can get acces to such machines

What do you think of glue? Does anyone know of a glue that would nice for attaching the valve to a piece of fabric?

If you're going to make the bag from sil nylon then the only thing that will stick to it is silicone. If you use a pu coated fabric there are probably many more options. There are also fabrics out there that "weld" together with an iron, not sure how you'd get that to work with your valve, but for the rest of the bag you wouldn't have stitching holes to worry about. There used to be a youtube vid. with some guys making stuff sacks with the heat weld material and an iron but I can't find it right now.
HERE is a link to some fabric.
    Good luck,
