I was perusing the 2Q2Z website yesterday. Bunch of cool stuff there. I found the under quilt protector (UQP). It looks very similar to the HH Super Shelter under cover. But at a significantly lower cost.

Would using the UQP & placing an open sleeping bag or poncho liner with foil survival blanket work? Has anyone tried anything similar?

+1. The UQP protector is suspended by shock cord, the weight of a bag would be too heavy and the UQP would sag.

Yes, that is what we thought. We have been telling those that ask that it isn't designed to hold weight. I thought I would ask just in case someone modified it a bit to hold weight.

You could always replace the cord to support the weight and have a fairly inexpensive UQ could you not?

It may be better to make a PLUQ from the poncho liner and then use the UQP as added insulation and protection from the elements. Also, you can add the survival blanket inside the PLUQ to boost your insulation.

Actually, I just mounted my UQP directly to my DB68. I didn't like how loosely the UQP hung.on my hammock. I set up my hammock in the dark without a light. I had three different suspensions hanging, twisted, and irritating me. So when I got home I grabbed some cable ties. My DangerBird has reflective gossgain tabs around the perimeter. I hung the phoenix and secured it to the suspension running through to the tabs on the ends of the hammock. Then I snugged it up. Then I took the UQP and zip tied it to the tabs on the hammock using the gossgain tabs on the UQP. I took the shock cord on the UQP and snugged it all up all the way around. Now I had shock cord loops on either side of the Hammock. So I hitched them to the pastic rings on the side tie outs, and now the UQP fits very snuggly to the bottom of the hammock and moves with the hammock much,much better.

I doubt that tossing a sleeping bag in it would get you anywhere, because it will be free to slide and bunch, and it will not hold your insulation up against the hammock. I am, however, much happier with how everything fits together, stays together, and fits in one stuff sack.
