Quick fix to prevent UQ shoulder slip

Often I don’t cinch my underquilts just right and they slip off my shoulder when I move around through the night. Here’s a quick sewing fix that can be done by machine or by hand.

narrow grosgrain ribbon
shockcord
1 mitten hook
1 cord lock

First I sewed a grosgrain loop to the outside of the Blackbird. I sewed it to bottom side of zipper material where my shoulder usually hits. Then I made a loop of shockcord that has a mitten hook and cord lock attached and tied it to the grosgrain loop on the Blackbird.

Now I only have to add a grosgrain loop to all of my underquilts (also at shoulder) and I can hook the mitten hook to any quilt I have to keep it at the right spot and prevent shoulder slip. My JRB quilt already has a loop for the HH tieouts so no extra sewing on JRBs. The cord lock allows you to tighten or loosen the quilt at the shoulder. And your UQ doesn't have to be placed just perfect or the same each time with a longer piece of shock cord and cord lock. Can loosen when you want to vent the quilt.

See attached pictures. The blue one is a short quilt so shoulder spot is close to end of quilt. Kelly green one is JRB of course.

It's good cause you can tighten or loosen from inside Blackbird. Or from inside my Hennessy that has 2Q's zipper mod. Another reason to get zipper mod!

Happy Camper, this is a great ideah, Im a tosser and this mod could prove quite usefull. I may have to add some loops and mitten hooks on my WBBB, The Winter Ptarmigan already comes with 3 sewn ribbon loops on each side (top, middle, bottom) so id just have to put ribbon with mitten hooks on them on the WB? Did you use a machine or do it by hand? Cotton thread or nylon thead or does it not matter? Thanks for the ideah, looking forward to checking out how you did it at the MAHA hang.

Thanks for the "fix". I tried my new BB this afternoon with a JRB HR UQ and right off noticed the UQ was not going to stay where I needed it. Breaking out the the thread injector as soon as I get back from weekend trip.

I sewed mine with a machine but hand sewing would work just as well for this little tack job. I used polyester thread. On the zipper side of BB I attached the grosgrain ribbon loop right where zipper is attached so you are sewing both hammock material and zipper material so it won't rip the hammock's ripstop nylon. On footbox side I sewed the loop to the black grosgrain ribbon trim on the corner angle of footbox.

I got my small toggles and mitten hooks from Quest Outfitters
