Altering a JRB quilt to fit like a SnugFit

The way the Speer is shaped, smaller radius on the inside next to the hammock and larger radius outside is what seems to me to be the big advantage. But if those of us who have a JRB Nest, for instance, would shorten the length of the material that makes up the breadth of the undercover on the inside only, then the quilt would pull up to you in the hammock and would stop before the longer, larger radius on the unaltered outside of the quilt could compress the down.
The JRBs seem to have the same width on both the inside and outside. The Speers hugger seems to be narrower on the inside and wider on the outside dimensionally.
Does this make sense?

Has anyone used a PeaPod along with a Nest? Seems like you could over stuff the peapod with extra down and use it on the inside of the Nest. Thanks for considering my brainstorms, especially since I am so new to these things myself. Mule

yes, it makes perfect sense. can you fold & pin 2 or 3 inches of the liner? if so, that may give you a good idea how it would be if you sewed it that way.

i have one of the older, thinner pea pods. if i were going to use it in really cold weather, i would need more insulation.
if i were going to use the nest w/ the pea pod, i would put the nest on the hammock as normal, then add the pea pod around the out side.
that should be a nice, toasty set up.

I was thinking of sewing darts in the inside black material of the Nest to make the inside radius smaller than the outside. This would give the Nest the same advantage as the snug fit of the speer. I may set my sewing machine on very long stitches (for easy removal) and sew eight or ten 1/2 darts equally spaced in the bottom lower half of the inside black layer of material. The nest is 5 feet wide. My body will be compressing the nest for the bottom portion only, not the sides. So making the inside radius, the one on the black material to be 5 inches shorter would allow the nest to be drawn tight against the hammock but would never compress the down, much like the Speer hugger (or whatever it is called) does.

That is an interesting idea. I would try pinning the darts before I sewed them in.

I have been conversing with Peter Pan and have decided not to emasculate (a better word would be 'ruin') his proven design with my idea. Heck, I haven't even slept with the quilts yet. I have so much to learn; ain't it grand? Mule
