    Flackfizer,

Thanks for the add to the list, it has helped motivationally. I am putting in a 99.75324% yes reservation for this. I do have some concerns though:

I have issues with walking from time to time (spinal cord issues) and do not want to be a burden (read as: slow dude holding things up). To compound that, I have ZERO backpacking experience. I am however, interested in learning everything I can if someone is in the mood to teach. I will be solo on this one to aid in my attention skills.

Do we have any hint as to the weather expected? I will just be coming back from Ireland and will be well used to freezing rain at that point, lol.

    Rick

    Water

    Phil,
I have a question about water. With a filter is there any water sources near where you will hike to on Saturday?

Me unsure also. I plan to carry 2 liters water, plus filter, and tablets.

Not sure how capable you might be, one thing I recommend is daily walks, 2-3 miles to train yourself and get used to distance walking. Eventually do it with some backpack weight too.
Amazing how it will build up your muscles and endurance.

Phil, I'll have my RTAK II along if you think we need it. Along with that Shiny New Spyderco Bushcraft & its sheath, unless you forget
I plan to be up there scouting around Friday also...

Its a tight squeeze for three in the old Nissan. I've done it before.

Ok--here is a new thread with all the info from the start. I tried to address many questions in the opener. Let me know what I missed. I also added maps. Everything seems pretty straight forward. Let me know....

I usually carry at least that much water too in my hydration bag. But upon arrival at camp there is a need for more water for cooking dinner (I use freezer bag dehydrated meals) and the next morning for breakfast plus drinking water for the hike out. 2 liters is not enough!

I listed water sources in the new thread. There are three along the way, but as is often the case, not one where we plan on hanging. I will bring at least 4 liters and will refill on Sat morning at the pump. We will pass the river, a pond, and a nice creek. I am not sure what the options are on Sunday. We will be at water later in the day from dawn till then we will probably using what we carry. Good ol' AT "between the shelters" style hiking! I have done it before though without a problem. Plus it probably wont be killer hot--and that helps a lot.

Looking over the trail map, I can see a few areas where I can cache water at key crossings. I will work out a plan to do that on Friday March 11.

Good plan! I'm still working out my details and will not commit until I do so. But I'm hopeful!

TFC Rick, You won't be the only old newbie out there. Back in the day I hunted both Richloam & Green Swamp, but never backpacked in a hammock. I'm sure most going will admit to being a newbie at one time, maybe not to being old. It's amazing what the olddog has learned from this group of hammockers at HF. Intend to learn alot more on this weekend trip. Looking forward to meeting you and the others.
