Good news and bad are the order of the day.
The good first: I finally found a pot that'll work for me and some fuel. Going to be fine in the food department. Also, there's a wonderful BBQ place that's opened up in downtown here since my last visit. Good food, generous portions, and reasonable prices. It's a nice change from the Subway that used to be the only game in town.
Bad news: FL state parks screwed me. I called Fanning Springs a month ago to ensure that hammocks were okay in the primitive site there. They told me it'd be fine if I had 1" straps, for both my hammock and tarp. Of course, I brought both.
I called there today to be sure they had space in the site for tonight and tomorrow. It was fine right until I mentioned that I'd be using an hammock. Apparently, LAST Friday, FSP decided that the primitive site there was unsuitable for hammocks.
Also, some time between when I called a month ago and now, FSP decided that 2" straps are required; I discovered this when I called Manatee Springs, to see if perhaps THEY had a site. I don't mind following rules intended to provide space for folks to use for years to come, but I DO want them to be clear, unambiguous, and CONSISTENT.
So, Grinder and I are reevaluating the rest of the trip. I'm pretty pissed over this. I know that I probably should've made reservations earlier, but to arbitrarily change the status of a site after clearing it seems somewhat high-handed to me. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but that doesn't change my feelings about it. I don't think FSP will be getting any more of my money the near future.
