Whats the first knot you tie on your tarp 'ridge tie' when you tie your first ridge tie up? How about the second? Right now im tying taut line hitches on both. When ever i do the siberian i always get sag and cant get it centered because i have to adjust the sag, which throws it off center.
I leave the cord permanently attached to the ridgeline D rings.
Then I wrap around the tree once and tighten with a plastic figure 9.
That way, I can easily center the tarp over the hammock without re-tying, plus it's sooo easy to get the ridgeline taut with the figure 9's.

We use a full ridge line on our tarps, then use Prussics to attach the tarp tie out loops to the ridge line.
Pull ridge line cord as taught as desired (we favor the small metal Figure 9s), attach tarp to prussics and slide the prussics to position tarp as desired.
Been doing this for years.
Only method I have ever used to hang tarp.
Just so easy.
See i dont use a full ridge line, i have a maccat so its unnecessary, I also leave mine attatched to the drings as well and simply tie to the tree. However i need suggestions from those of you who use ridge ties and not ridge lines for your tarp, what knots for the first tie to the tree for your tarp?
figure 9's is all I use. Before them I was using tautline hitch.

My first knot in a slippery half hitch. Then I do all my tightening on the otherside with a truckers hitch. Sometimes I have to take it all down and start over to get it positioned right, but usually only once. With the quick release knots it's pretty easy anyways. I've never had any luck with a siberian hitch either.

The type or make of the tarp has nothing to do with using a full ridge line cord. It can be used on all tarps and makes hanging them much, much easier.
TiredFeet is right, they do make set-up kind of a breeze. They aren't at all necessary on a MacCat, but it will shave time and effort from the set-up.
No help on the knots, the Fig 9s are just way too easy and don't weigh enough for it to matter to me.
