    1" emt coupling w/ 3/4" emt inside

Here are the pics of my coupling this allows me to vary my pole length 12' outside, 10' in the house.I also use the poles for the portable stand by Alamosa.

Njredneck: thanks for the pics! Looks good!

Q: you noted that the set up allows the ridge length to be variable....does the coupling allow you to lock the length at a pre determined state? Or does the interior piece stay in place just with friction? I would think that the load would cause the two ends to slide towards the center along the ridge pole (but I'm a pharmacist, not an engineer!).

    Thanks!

BTW: the failure I experienced was actually at the threaded end of the galvanized pipe. The threading sheared off at the coupling. But, I just used coupling with no internal support like what you've described above.

    Hey guys,
As you can see I am new to the forum. I have been a busy busy bee. Just completed my stands. Was really easy to do. Used 1 1/2 EMT for the tube. Extra large hinges due to the really windy conditions here. Thought i would use the extra holes on them to have tie downs. Dunno, we will see how that works. Don't want my gear flying around.
The posts are 7ft tall and as you can see the hammock [Warbonnet Traveler] is sitting quite high. I'm gonna cut them down to 6ft later.

Looks great! You have been busy. Leave that stand laying on the ground if it's that windy. Don't want it to fly through those windows!

By the way, I'm a nosy guy, what's that on your roof in the last image?

Just a place to put your feet on to work on the swamp cooler.
The swamp cooler is the A/C.

My stand has been ccompleted for a while now.

The adjustability comes from using different lengths of 1".I cut 2 10' lengths down to 6' for 12' pole and use a 4' leftover to reduce the length to 10'. Once tried to add third section to get 14' without coupling on the 2nd 1" joint the 3/4" bent on the inside and put me on the ground seems like you need the emt coupling to put a limiter on the flex like wise with out the 3/4" on the inside there was alot of flex at the coupling.

I haven't had a chance to try a new top pole. So, my tripods are done, but I do not yet have a functional stand!

Sorry for the repeated questions! I am mechanically totally inept.

So, you have two 6' sections of 1" EMT joined with a coupling and a section of 3/4" EMT inside to 1" tube to provide additional strength at the coupling point, correct? How long is the 3/4" section of EMT?

    Thanks!
    Bruce
