    Cheap tarp material?

    Hi guys,
Im looking to DIY a summer tarp for myself. Im thinking about 11'x10'. Im looking for a place to get material cheap, idealy in a camo or olive drab color. Anyone have and suggestions?

I made this tarp out of the 70D urethane coated. A lttle on the heavy side, but it's nice stuff.

Not really. Just figured the dimensions I wanted and went from there. There are a few pics in my gallery of the process. The biggest help was I made a template from 36' wide paper first. Then it was just a matter of tracing it on the material.

While you're at DIY Gear Supply (linked above), take a look at the DIY Guides for tarp plans.

I prefer the "30d Silnylon Ripstop 2nds" at half the weight and bulk over the 70d PU coated fabric.

If you are set on camo or olive drab, you could just buy that material in regular lightweight ripstop nylon (uncoated) and do the DIY silnylon treatment. This will get you the best of all worlds.

    Cheers

At the time, they were out of 30D silnylon 2nds in black. I wanted a black tarp, but was not willing to spend $9 a yd. for 8 yds of material, for a first project. But yes, you're right. 30D is a better option.

What did you use for the trim on the tarp?
