I took three 12 year old boys to the beach camping this past week. My son and I were in hammocks the first night. His two friends asked to join us for the next three nights. They abandoned the tent. Used it to stow gear. Thank goodness I had two more hammocks in the truck.
My daughter, 11, is also a hammock sleeper. Yes, it makes their packs lighter and the hikes and camping much more tolerable.. no more, "move over, your in my space" stuff.

My 7 and 9 year olds sleep in their own hammocks, my 5 yr old has yet to go camping with me. Soon though, she'll sleep in her own hammock too.

My first homemade will be for her. I am trying to get her used to hanging with me. She will nap in my hammock sometimes.

I tried stacking the hammocks like bunk beds and it was only marginally successful.

Next time we'll hang from three trees. The head end will share a tree and the foot ends will have their own.

Also, watch out for insulation concerns. I could not get my six year old daughter to sleep on a pad comfortably. I've since purchased a supershelter. Hopefully, that will work better.

Funny you'd say that, one of my favorite pictures of Short Stuff is of him napping on the back porch in his hammock. I had that one enlarged, framed, extra copies made and sent to family and even keep a copy on my locker @ work to look at.

He does that once in a while and it's definitely one for my favorite pictures of him, for sure. I finally got him to sleep in his hammock all night on our camping trip to Davidson River CG in Transylvanina Co, NC last week. He did good, excepting the first night, but slept in it alone right next to my hammock the other 2 nights. I was proud of him for being brave and sleeping alone.

Edit: For the record, bhancock, both my son and I have ENO DoubleNests also. We use the ENO DryFly rain tarp for both of us for now, but plan to go to DIY gear as soon as I get my collective crap together to do it.
