    Hennessy Hex Ground Setup

I'm looking for setup suggestions for going to ground with a HH Hex tarp. I made a scaled down paper version and have been playing around with it. Does anyone have pics or suggestions for different setups for differing weather conditions? I'm also thinking I need to add a "pole pocket" at the center of the ridgeline to place an adjustable hiking staff. Any suggestions for doing that?

    Thanks.

If I am supporting the tarp (any where) with my pole I invert the pole. Put the handle on the gorund and slip the tip through the tie out attachment. Bear in mind I don't have pricey poles and I don't mind if the handle comes in contact with the ground. But then I don't need some special pocket I will only use once ina blue moon.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Cook Custom Sewing does an interesting thing in the center of their tarps that may fit your bill. I've attached an image from their website that shows the four loop idea. It's designed for paddle handles, but should be workable for a hiking pole. Go to their site for instructions on how to set it up - it's pretty clever.

Also, as for ground setup ideas using a hex style tarp, check out the blackcat diy page here on HF - scroll to the bottom where there are lots of ground setup photos.

I'm thinking I may be able to use the existing guy lines. I'll run the lines back underneath the tarp up to the top of the pole and attach. They shouldn't need to be very taught, just enough to prevent the pole from shifting. That will also provide internal ridgelines to help form the tarp. The lines should also provide a place to secure a tub floor/net. I'll have to see how large of a groundcloth would be needed, and if it will be possible to have it also be used as a weather shield when hanging. Hope to try out some setups this weekend.

When using poles I run the guy line through the wrist strap and then down to the ground. has worked for the last few years this way.

    Before Haning

Before my hanging life begain I was a tarp user. I have a golite tarp that I really liked.
To use your hex fly just use both hiking sticks at each end making a "a" frame tent. Place a clove hitch at the handles close the peaks and rig downward with the remaing cordage. Tie out the sides from there as a regular tent or tarp design.
There are many usefull tips on rigging tarps on youtube.com. I will attach a pic of my old tarp if I can find it.
    Hold on,
I think its loaded not sure we'll see. If not I'll try again

I'm looking for more of a severe weather setup. I've got some of my dimensions wrong, but here's kinda what I was thinking about. One pole is located at the center of the tarp, held in place by the guy lines running underneath the tarp.

    foul weather tarp

If you drop that dude down like I have that Golite tarp tent I bet you wont get any better weather protection. Now the other thing you must be concerned with is where is the water running and a ground cloth if you require one. I had some water run past me on that paticular hike but it was just that around me I chose my ground wisely.

I was able to get a setup this past weekend with the help of a scouter friend. I'm pleased with the concept, but it still needs a little bit of fine tuning. Pole height is 95cm. I still need to sew in some additional tie-out points at the mid of the front sections. I'm planning on making a tyvek tub floor. Also would like to make a door & net for the entrance. I only set up the actual tarp for the one entrance type, but with my model I've also got some other entance designs as well as a complete enclosure.
