Excellent suggestions. It give me an excuse to venture further away from my normal stomping grounds. I rarely venture south of Hwy 2, and tend to stay on the wet side.

There's lots of opportunity for wandering off of Salmon La Sac Road, plus easy access to Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

My buddy and I are planning on hanging on the Dosewallips (east side of the Olympics) this Friday evening, right at the road washout, if anyone else is interested.

I'm experiencing difficulty associating 'wilderness' with 'easy access'..
must be different where you live.

What i mean by easy access to wilderness, multiple entry points to a different trails with different destinations along a single access road. There are a few places, where you can walk about one hundred yards from your car and your in a wilderness area.

I would definitely be interested in some central hangs. I am particularly interested in Cooper Lake and further Pete Lake.

I should also tell the wife that I am bailing on her to go to Dosewallips – That would be great! She has to work on Sunday…

If someone is heading to Dosewallips from the Seattle or Federal Way – I work there – area I would love to go!

Washout? Is it closed or something? Are we talking about basic car camping using hammocks?

This would be my 1st hang. It would be good to get some things figured out before I go backpacking and I am hours away from the car let alone civilization.

Maybe I will tell her to take the bus and I will take the car…??? – We only have the one – it’s a parking issue.

The Dosewallips River washed out the road about 6 miles from the trailhead/ranger station/frontcountry campgroup (9 miles from the Hood Canal) several years ago and they have not gotten all the plans/paperwork filed to get it fixed yet. Our plan at this point is just to go to the washout point, which is the current trailhead, park the truck and find a couple pair of trees down by the river. We are still trying to develop a comfort level with hammocks (my buddy got his last week), so will be camping near the truck just in case it gets cold or something.

HA! that's probably a good idea since it looks like we are finally going to get at least one week of winter this year...starting this week.

JM2C (just my 2 cents)...An event closer to Oregon would suit me, something easy to invite new hangers to. Lots of places in the Waldo Lake Wilderness (land-o-lakes) and Three Sisters Wilderness in the Cascades. Any other Oregonians out there?

As far as "wilderness"... That is the great thing about the PacificNW, wild spots can have easy access and are plentiful.
