    Hanging with your dog

Hey guys, I haven't not done much cold weather camping and I plan on going hanging this weekend(~47F). The problem is that I dont know how to keep my dog warm with out having to sleep in my tent and keeping me from my first real hammock hike. How do you guys keep your pup warm?

Ive been wondering this too. I assumed to put a sweater on her and enjoy the extra heat but I was concerned how the hammock would hold up to their nails

hang low- our pup loves to snuggle in the deck hammocks we have, and can even climb between two, but sometimes he gets his back legs twisted under him and has trouble getting out- he sometimes decides to get out in a hurry. He gets the first half of him out ok, then falls a little as his back legs don't follow. He also sometimes needs help getting his back legs up and in.
my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
    Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)
(see my profile for detailed weights)

Mine jerked awake at every tiny noise in the night. When he was asleep he was very warm, though, which was welcome

My pup Kiba and I go hammock camping all the time. Pretty much every week. Just 2 weeks ago we hit 14f.

How you keep a dog warm isn't too hard. Just keep her moving and enjoying the woods and when you're relaxing, just build a fire and enjoy some of nature's best with your best friend.

You guys are brave. Bringing your dog in the hammock with you.
My Rottie is such a wacked out spaz I just know we would end up on the deck!

He gets a ccf/reflectix pad and a wool blanket. Plus he does have a built in insulator!

What kind of dog and size? I have a 20lb Shiba Inu (basically a miniature Akita) that takes naps in the snow for hours, and refuses to come in the house when it's like that. She has a double coat though, and is built for that sort of thing. She'll hop in the hammock with me, but she soon gets out and lies underneath it due to overheating of both of us.

If your dog is a breed with a double coat, 47ish degrees is fine for them on the ground...maybe with just a pad. If it's a Chihuahua though, put it in the hammock with you. Your mutual body heat will keep each other warm.

Trim their nails, but don't have their fur groomed if cold is a concern. Grooming will thin their coat.

I have a Dachshund/Jack Russel mix and he lays between my legs in the footbox. My only problem is keeping that little ball of energy in one spot!
