Enjoyed three nights at Baxter State park at Daicey Pond at the Owl's Nest (cabin #1).
The original goal was to climb Mt. Katahdin, but we were reduced numbers in the morning and the heat & humidity affect our time going up to Chimney pond. Once we approached the Saddle slide, rain started to fall and we decided to turn back. This ended up being a 3.5 hour hike in the rain. This made our decision to turn around a good one.
However, there was lots to do at camp, the AT trail ran behind the cabin and canoe rentals were the main activities.
The park itself is a true wilderness area, not really part of the state park system. The park has no facilities, no running water and you have to pack out your trash. These limitations means that true outdoors people come to the park and what you see the respect they give to the wilderness.

Avoiding Chores is a collection of interests from a group of guys who do everything possible NOT to do chores. This involves getting into a number of interests such as: hiking, camping, outdoors, bushcraft, running, beer reviews, live hangouts and long term projects like living off the grid or stone carving.
