    Cool idea, definitely. But if your hammock fails, it's gonna hurt. Bad. Really, really bad.

    Maybe switch it around so the extender runs across the top, rather than the bottom. Makes the side supports more important, which should probably be moved higher on the outer post. Put the side supports on with hinges, and you could fold it up.
