    quilt or rug

    Hi All
Might sound a stupid question, but has anyone used a sheepskin/raindeer skin under their sleeping bag in place of an underquilt? I was thinking of trying one in between the layers on my dd travel, not sure if its a good idea or not, it can also double on my chiar inn front of the bush tv, has anyone got any views on good and bad please?
    Regards
    Bill

I have one, and it is heavy, so car camping only. I also find it too short and too narrow for my needs. I am not a big person either. You may have different results though. Try it if you have the rug already, but I wouldn't buy a sheepskin rug for that purpose over investing the money in a good UQ.

This has been a topic occasionally. Here are a couple of threads discussing this and other options:

If you had something already, it would probably be great for indoor or backyard hanging, and maybe car camping. As Cali said, for hiking it's likely too heavy and bulky (if you want complete coverage). Unless you're have a pack animal or like to camp traditionally
