I've been playing around with my SHs trying to think of a way to secure the line without causing damage, or at least minimizing it.
If I understand the issue properly, the weak point is created where the free (working?) end is compressed between the the supporting line (attached to tree) and the SH itself.
Please excuse the terminology - I'm not 100% sure what to call parts of a rope during tying.
I haven't had a chance to try this on my hammock, but was hoping for thoughts from the community.
This is a 1/8" SP with 1/8" Amsteel, but the process should be the same for 7/64", I think.

Take the working end across the supporting line, while maintaining an open eye.
Attachment 101869
Bring the free working end through that eye.
You can also bring through a bight resulting in a secure slip knot, and doesn't require pulling the whole line through. (Probably the better method, but I didn't think about it until after the pictures.)

Cinch down.
The supporting line is now underneath the securing knot, with the compression being shared by the SH, over a couple of bends, and the securing knot.
Thoughts??
