Good point, thanks for this tip, will change that for sure.

I always tie the half hitch just in case. I have used other suspensions but I have used straps/buckles for a while now. Both from Ripstop By The Roll.
I thought I was getting polyester, but now I'm not so sure that's what I got. There is an obnoxious amount of stretch.

They are from Dutch. The failure mode is that the webbing twisted in the buckle causing loss of friction and damage to the side of the webbing.

Maybe due to the stretch? In all my years and hundreds of n8ghts, i havent had any slippage, or a failure like described. My guess is the strap itself is not thick enough to get a good bite, and also the material .
Multi larks head seems like a good way to go. Adding more turns is good too, but you can see how one of the outside turns walked onto the side of the buckle.

I hope that the webbing is just the wrong material, but can't find the description on dutchware.com. whatever it is, it's not going to work for me going forward.

    Thanks. Better webbing would help.

We were up in Helen and heard some crazy thunder rumbles that kept going for several seconds. The wind got really weird and the rain found as all the cracks in our equipment.

Good to have you around on the forums.

Yep. I larks head the fixed end of woopie to the tree strap.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

My suggestion is to reach out to Dutch with your pictures and have him take a look.

I also use Dutch buckles with webbing and so far, knock on wood, I have had no issue with them except they will slip if I do not put a slippery half hitch above them. My brother who is well over 300lb uses them all the time with no issues so I am not thinking it is a weight thing causing them to stretch.

Are you sure they are stretching and not slipping? I ask because I don't see a knot above them in your picture.

I'm just getting into this and in an effort to bring the wife and two daughters along for the ride I am going to DIY some tablecloth hammocks for each of us.

The wife has been hanging in my Himal outside and inside, she wanted to hang it in the living room to hang and watch TV!!!! love it. Looks like she has been bit too. I haven't decided on what suspension system I will put on hers or mine. Right now I have some long straps with rings on them that I've been using and/or some line that came with the Himal. I'm not sure what I should go with for ours.

The older daughter currently has an ENO DN with Atlas straps so I didn't get her another suspension system. If I want to (keep it on the cheap for me) add a suspension system to hers what would you guys do?

For the other daughter I ordered the cinch buckles/straps/amsteel loops/dutch clips for her suspension system... this suspension system almost cost more than all four tablecloths... But I thought it would be easy set up and adjustment for her. She has not had or set up her own hammock to this point, I wanted something that was easy for her to figure out when she forgets what I tell her when she gets it.

I doubt she will remember to half hitch the cinch buckle/strap and hope this doesn't slip on her. I just wanted this to be easy for her, maybe I should have gone with the atlas straps for her too.
